Permanent Bell Family Exhibit
On display in the Visitors Center is the largest national display of John Bell and family pottery. Perhaps the most famous artisan of Waynesboro’s early history John Bell was born in 1800. In 1833 Bell opened his pottery in Waynesboro. While there he and his wife Elizabeth had nine children several of whom joined the pottery. John Bell died on January 21, 1880 of heart problems. Although the pottery burned down in 1899 the rooster weather vane that sat atop the Bell shop is proudly perched in front of the exhibit.
