August 8,9,10
Civil War Encampment- Annual Civil War Encampment. August 9th offers the following events: a reenactment of the Battle of Henry Hill (First Manassas) at 2p.m, at 4p.m a firing competition will be offered. From 7-9pm will be a candlelight tour of the encampment, and from 9-9:30pm a night-time artillery duel. On Sunday, August 10th, 1:00p.m. a generic battle will be reenacted. FREE admission.
September 11
250th Anniversary- Forbes Trail (1758-2008) dinner and lecture- sponsored by: Renfrew Museum and Park and Waynesboro Historical Society. Hosted by: Quincy Village the dinner/lecture will be held in the Hess Room at 6:30p.m. followed at 7:30p.m. by the keynote speaker: Burt Kummerow. A noted speaker, public television producer, museum director and multi-faceted public historian, Mr. Kummerow, started his career studying Rome and Greece, especially Pompeii. After helping found the Living History Movement, he became President of Historyworks, Inc., based in Baltimore, MD. Now a public historian who uses a wide range of skills and experience to bring history to the general public, he has been a principal consultant to the French and Indian War 250 Consortium, and is the author of: "Pennsylvania's Forbes Trail: Gateways and Getaways along the Legenday Route from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh". Cost of dinner/lecture is $20 per person. (There will be a book signing by the author after the lecture.) September 13
Fourth Annual Cumberland Valley Pottery Fest at Renfrew Park from 10:00am until 5:00pm-area ceramic artists from the Cumberland Valley Craft Guild, Mont Alto Pottery Cooperative and other area potters. This event is a cooperative event between Renfrew Museum and Park and the Nicodemus Center for Ceramic Studies located on the campus of Penn State at Mont Alto. 11:00am-4:00p.m.- Join Renfrew Museum and Park and Renfrew Institute for a day family fun, pumpkins, and good food. More details as the become available.
